Jean Schroeder Ryan, age 89, of West Palm Beach, Florida, and formerly of Essex, passed away June 17. Jean was born in Bronx, New York, on Sept. 21, 1929, to the late A. Henry and Dorothy Schroeder. Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband Kevin and sister Joyce.

She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Patrice (Ray) Janus, Cathleen, Terry (Mark) Oberlander, Jeanette (Richard) Frink, and Michael. Jean “Nonnie” will also be fondly remembered by her five grandchildren, Megan (Zachary), Christopher (Rebecca), Gregory (Caitlyn), Alexander, and Samantha; and two great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Natalie.

She married the love of her life Kevin in Bayside, Queens, New York, in 1951 and they moved with their children to Armonk, New York. Her full life included singing, modeling, working as a receptionist, bowling, golfing, play reading, badminton, family time in Bermuda and San Diego, and starting shuffleboard at Essex Meadows. After marrying Kevin, Jean was an active member of the Catholic Church, and over the years, she became the president of the Women’s Guild of St. Patrick’s Church, taught CCD, and volunteered with the Poor Clare Nuns.

Jean was a classy lady with a kind and generous heart. She had a great sense of humor and always looked ready to walk down a runway. She’ll be remembered for her famous lipstick kisses. Jean’s love for her family was deep and she will be greatly missed.

Private services will be arranged for the immediate family.
