Westbrook

Michael Hodgins, 75, of Westbrook passed away at home on June 13 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease, a battle he waged quietly and with great dignity. His wife was at his bedside when he passed.

Though he might have appeared gruff to those who did not know him, he was a gentle soul who loved reading, annual visits to his beloved island of Culebra, Puerto Rico, snorkeling, sailing, and the ocean. Mike never met a cat he didn’t like and contributed to Forgotten Felines frequently. He lived at Pilots Point Marina aboard his sailboat Querencia II for more than 20 years, leaving reluctantly in 2014 due to his illness. Mike was an educator and a wordsmith, holding degrees in education and history.

He is survived by his wife Mary-Anne Prchal-Hodgins; and stepchildren Anne-Marie Farez of Middletown and Robb Prchal of Haddam, and their families.

A private celebration of his life will be held at the convenience of his family. To share a memory of Michael or send a condolence to his family, please visit www.rwwfh.com. Arrangements by Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home in Centerbrook.
