Westbrook, Sarasota, Florida

Paul Brewster Cusson, Sr., of Westbrook and Sarasota, Florida, passed away peacefully with family by his side at the age of 77 on June 2 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Paul was born on April 12, 1942, in Hanover, New Hampshire to parents Dr. Francis Joseph and Edith Brewster (Sherman). Paul and his family moved to Westbrook in 1956. He graduated from Westbrook High School in 1960. From 1972 to 1992, Paul was a trooper with the Connecticut State Police and a detective in the Major Crimes Squad, serving his entire career at Troop F in Westbrook. He loved nothing more than chatting with friends and family either on his back deck, Bill’s Seafood, or Dunkin’ Donuts drinking his light and sweet coffee. He lived a life full of laughter, as he was the “ultimate prankster.” He was a caring, selfless man who never wanted to be a burden to anyone.

He leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Elizabeth Cusson; his sons Paul Brewster Cusson, Jr., and William Brewster Cusson; and his grandchildren Andrew Brewster Cusson, Melissa Mariah Cusson, Jeremy Taber Larkin, Evan Brewster Cusson, Jordan Elizabeth Hopkins, Aaron William Cusson, and Brenden Anthony Cusson. He also leaves his brother John S. Cusson; daughters-in-law Tasha Cusson and Ashley Cusson; and sister-in-law Colleen Yuu.

A Celebration of Life will be held June 29 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. under the Pavilion at the Westbrook Elks Club. All who knew and loved Paul and friends of the Cusson family are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul’s name to Middlesex Health Hospice Program Office of Philanthropy, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457.
