Barbara F. Johnston died following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease on May 9 at Gladeview Rehabilitation & Health Center. She was born July 10, 1932, in Waterbury, the daughter of George and Barbara Fenn of Litchfield.

Barbara graduated from Walnut Hill School, attended one year at St. Lawrence University, and completed secretarial school.

Barbara was married to Robert Johnston and divorced. She is survived by friend, caregiver, and life partner Carol Van Steenbergen of Guilford. Barbara was predeceased by her son Steven Johnston.

Surviving family members include daughter Martha Johnston and granddaughter Chelsea Skipwith of Sanbornville, New Hampshire; granddaughter Georgina Johnston of San Antonio, Texas; and great-granddaughter Lea Taylor of New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Barbara volunteered for many years at the Guilford Visiting Nurses Association and was employed at Interim Healthcare.

Barbara was a loving partner, mother, grandmother, and friend.

A service of remembrance will be held at interment at the Litchfield Cemetery at a later date, where she will join her son Steven and parents George and Barbara.
