Cornelius A. (Neil) Comstock, Jr., longtime Guilford resident, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2018 surrounded by his loved ones. A graveside service was held at Alderbrook Cemetery.

Neil was the loving husband of Lillian M. Comstock (Tournas) for more than 50 years. Neil was born in the Devon neighborhood of Milford and was the son of the late Cornelius, Sr., and Esther (Salter) Comstock and brother of the late Sally Ann Hutchins.

Neil graduated from UConn in 1958 with a degree in accounting and, after being drafted, served in Germany from 1958 to 1960. After working at Tradesman’s National Bank and the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston, Neil worked the next 35 years in Yale University’s Investment Accounting Department retiring as its manager.

Neil’s devotion to his family was the most important part of his life. He was also an avid golfer, sailor/canoer/kayaker, and Civil War historian. Neil was scarcely seen without his favorite Red Sox cap (which will be with him eternally) and he also enjoyed watching the successes of the UConn Women’s basketball team. Neil loved living on the shoreline, especially alongside the East River for many years in Guilford. He shared with his wife Lillian an appreciation for the beauty and wildlife of the marshlands. Neil also worked to extend Connecticut’s greenway initiatives.

Neil leaves behind his three cherished children, Neal Comstock of Falls Church, Virginia, Kristin Comstock (Jonathan Clarke) of Brooklyn, New York and Carolyn Comstock- Montgomery (Eric Montgomery) of Madison.

Neil also leaves his dearly beloved grandchildren Christopher, William, and Mark Comstock; James Montgomery; and Henry and Lillian Comstock-Clarke. As a devoted Pop-Pop, Neil spent innumerous hours of fun delighting his grandchildren and sharing much laughter.

Neil is also survived by his brother-in-law John Hutchins of Little River, South Carolina, his brother-in-law Andrew Tournas and wife Sally of South Yarmouth, Massachusetts, and his brother-in- law George and wife Martha Tournas of Pinehurst, North Carolina and Jamestown, Rhode Island. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
