Old Saybrook

Frances L. “Frannie” (Hubert) Alberini, 82, of Old Saybrook, passed peacefully from this world early Easter Sunday morning, April 21. Born in Framingham, Massachusetts, on July 10, 1936, to Joseph and Alice (Provost) Hubert, Frannie lived a full and rich life that allowed her to enjoy many friendships and life’s simple pleasures.

Frannie was a bright, dedicated student and graduated at the top of her class at Framingham High School before attending Bridgewater State Teacher’s College. She fell in love and married John Alberini in 1958 and together they raised four children. The family spent time in Ojai, California, Framingham, Massachusetts, and Brookfield before settling in Old Saybrook in 1970. With her quick wit and enjoyment of life, Frannie made for a delightfully fun and funny mother. She loved to play games of all sorts and was exceptionally good at bridge and mahjong. Early in her life she loved to bowl and was very proud to have once bowled a 256.

She was the quintessential “people person”—always one to converse with the stranger standing next to her in the grocery checkout line, and throughout her life she enjoyed a great many friendships. Frannie was a popular waitress at Luigi’s Restaurant in Old Saybrook for more than 20 years. She thoroughly enjoyed all of life’s simple pleasures, a good laugh, a good smoke, lunch with friends, and trips to the casinos.

She was predeceased by her husband John in 2015 and leaves behind her four children, Catherine (Alberini) Shea of Colchester, John Alberini, Jr., of Guerneville, California, Rosemarie Alberini of Killingworth, and Patrick Alberini of Clinton; four grandchildren, Patrick Davis, Kelley Shea, Austin Shea, and Jaye-P. Alberini; one great grandson, Nash Donovan; and her little dog, Henry.

A celebration of Frannie’s life was held at the St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Old Saybrook, on May 1. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Valley Shore Animal Welfare League in Westbrook.
