North Haven

Joan M. Buccini Longobardi, 84, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on April 15 with her family by her side. She was born in New Haven on March 28, 1935, the daughter of the late John A. and Loretta Musante Buccini.

After graduating from West Haven High School, Joan received an associate degree from the New Haven State Teachers College, now Southern Connecticut State University. She volunteered her time to many charities and organizations, including St. Frances Cabrini Nursery School, the Women & Family Life Center of Guilford, and as a reader at the Clintonville Elementary School. Joan was a member of the North Haven Garden Club, and enjoyed cooking and gardening. She received a Master Gardeners Certificate from the Connecticut Agricultural Center. Joan also enjoyed classical dance when she was a young girl in local productions and danced with friends well into her 70’s, including the North Haven Senior Center Dance Group.

She was the beloved mother of Vincent J. Longobardi (Samantha Fox), Stephen C. Longobardi (Cindyann), Jon A. Longobardi (Grace Guidet), and Gerald R. Longobardi (Christine A.). She was the loving grandmother of Stephen J., Richard V., Vincent D., and Regina, Gabrielle, and Gianna Longobardi. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Jack Buccini (Maryanne).

Joan’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Djiedjorm Doe, Francesca Tutu, and the entire Masonicare team, as well as Dr. Harriet Kluger, Laura McKnight-Snyder, and the team at Yale Smilow Cancer Hospital for the excellent care and comfort they provided.

The visiting hours will be April 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave. Family and friends are invited to go directly to St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Ave., North Haven, on April 23 at 10:00 a.m. to attend a Mass of Christian burial, and are also invited to attend the committal service immediately following in the All Saints Mausoleum.
