Scottsdale, Arizona

Edwina Tyler Monroe, 93, made her transition on Feb. 13 at Valley Hospice in Scottsdale, Arizona. She was born in 1925 in Hartford, living her childhood and some of her adult years in Westbrook and St. Petersburg, Florida. While in St. Petersburg, she met Robert Monroe and they were married in 1947 and moved to the Kansas City metropolitan area.

She loved being active, walking every day, even into her 90’s. She previously owned Key Magazine of Kansas City, and Bed and Breakfast of Kansas City. Edwina is survived by two of her three children, Kent Monroe and Kathy Brancheau. Her youngest son, Kyle, preceded her in death last year. She also had six grandchildren, Indigo, Jason, Shannon, Jennifer, Jill, and Julie; and five great-grandchildren.

Edwina was committed to spreading the ideas of personal growth. The writings she really enjoyed spoke of acceptance, appreciation, admiration, and attention. She used these principles not only in her personal life but also in the two book groups she was a part of for more than twenty years: “Path with Heart,” and a “Short Stories” group. She was a long-time resident of Lenexa, and Prairie Village, Kansas, and later enjoyed living at McDowell Village in Scottsdale, Arizona.

A celebration of life will be held on May 11 at Saybrook Point at 1:00 to 4:30 p.m.
