Chester

Kenneth Vernon Howley, 72, formerly of Chester, passed away peacefully on April 2 with his beloved wife Paula at his side. Ken was born in Middletown on April 4, 1946, son of the late Thomas and Marjorie (House) Howley.

He had an illustrious 37-year career with the New Haven Register, having worked his way from a journeyman printer to assistant pressroom manager. He was a proud member of St. Joseph’s in Chester, and was active in the Knights of Columbus Council 3037. Ken loved the outdoors and could often be found camping, shooting, kayaking, or hiking in the state forest behind his home or any National Park he could drive his family to. Whether on a family vacation or eating Sunday dinner, he was always happiest surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. His bright smile and engaging sense of humor always left his grandkids laughing and filled with wonder.

He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Paula (Voghell) Howley, and their four children, David Howley, Keith Howley and his wife Kimberly, Amy Hathaway and her husband Jack, and Nathan Howley. In addition, he leaves behind six grandchildren, Ethan Howley, Julia Howley, Nora Howley, Jonathon Howley, Lillian Hathaway ,and Charles Hathaway; and his three brothers, Thomas Howley, Dennis Howley, and Gary Howley and their families.

Visitation was held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St. in Centerbrook on April 7. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on April 8 at St. Joseph Church, 48 Middlesex Ave. in Chester. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery.
