Old Saybrook, Westbrook

George Edward Olson, of Old Saybrook and formerly of Westbrook, died April 1. He was born on Oct. 1, 1936, in Bristol, the son of Robert J. Olson and Lila A. Wills Olson.

George had a passion for the Boston Red Sox, walks to the library, and reading. His love of antique and classic cars was unrivaled, as was his love of jazz music and the songbooks of Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong. His keen wit and dry sense of humor will be dearly missed.

George is survived by his daughter Deborah Berger and her husband Bruce of Mt. Sinai, New York; brothers Kenneth Olson of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and Merwin Olson of Palm Coast, Florida; sister Lillian Thomson of Brandon, Vermont; and grandchildren Andrew and Adam Berger. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Olson.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks, appreciation, and love to the members of the Vitas hospice team and Gladeview Health Care and Rehabilitation Facility for their love, compassion, and care of George for the past five plus years.

Calling hours will be held on April 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook.
