Guilford

Helen W. Jacobsen passed away peacefully in her sleep March 16 at home in Guilford. Helen was born on Dec. 11, 1926, to the late Flora and John Walker.

Helen loved to share the stories of her life with anyone who was willing to listen, from her time at the telephone answering board asking, “number please,” to working at Knapp Foundry, to her childhood spent in Indian Cove digging up clams with her toes, or stories of her children and grandchildren. She loved to share her gift of gab. Helen also loved to teach her craft of creating her pressed flower cards with anyone who was willing to learn.

She was the eternal optimist, with great wit, a beautiful sense of humor, a generous heart, and an unforgettable laugh. She always saw the best in everyone and always looked on the bright side of things. Helen said that she was so lucky to have had such a wonderful life with her husband of 69 years, Robert. She praised her husband’s hard work and diligent planning that let them enjoy their life to its fullest. Her greatest joy in her life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored and always had plenty of pictures to share.

She is survived by her sons Mark Jacobsen (Jackie) of Bellows Falls, Vermont, and Gary Jacobsen (Kathy) of Sailsbury, Massachusetts; her brothers-in-law William Jacobsen and Raymond Jacobsen; as well as her grandchildren Melanie, Bobby, Andrew, Brian, Sarah, and Joseph. She is also survived by her beloved great-grands Braiden, Tucker, Kailee, Samuel, Vivian, Eleanor, and Lucy, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughters Kathy J. Keating and Susan J. Corbett; her siblings Robert Walker, June Spencer, and Ruth Walker; and the love of her life Robert Jacobsen.

Friends are invited to calling hours at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford, on Saturday, April 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. The burial will be held privately at the request of the family.
