Clinton

It is with great sadness that the family of Mark Joseph Sherman announces his sudden passing on Feb. 20. Mark will be lovingly remembered by all who crossed his path.

Mark was born Oct. 29, 1963. His early childhood and teenage years were spent in Clinton. He attended Paier College of Art, pursuing his passion for art. He lived in Brooklyn, New York, Vermont, Martha’s Vineyard, on the Appalachian Trail and came full circle back to Connecticut. Brooklyn, however, always held a fond place in his heart. Mark’s careers were varied. He worked as a general contractor and a plumber’s assistant but recently began a dog training business that supported his art. He dreamed his art would be “making it big” one day.

Mark cherished family, friends, and his beloved dog Lily. His door was open to anyone wishing to share their lives with him. Mark was a force to be reckoned with, living life on his own terms. His laughter and amazing sense of humor were infectious. Mark was a consummate story teller who filled a room with his presence. During family gatherings and parties, Mark charmed people with tales of his adventures and misadventures. He was exciting to be with. This dreamer never let go of the possibility that his dreams might come true. His life ended all too soon, to the great sadness of many. We feel blessed to have had him in our lives. “Who’s better than you,” Mark?

He was predeceased by Robert Clifton Sherman (father). Survivors include Catherine (Tony) and Jack (parents); and siblings (mates) Robert Sherman and Sarah O’Brian, Deborah (Steven) Anderson, Christine Todd, Marylouise (John) Engelhardt, Gregory Sherman, and Rachael Sherman. He is also survived by his son Edgar; companion Lisa Banik; nieces and nephews Christopher (Megan) Colgan, Oliver and Amelia Sherman, Isaac and Jessica Anderson, James and Catherine Todd, Frederick Engelhardt, and Gregory, Hannah, Peter, and Michael Sherman. Important figures were aunts, uncles, and cousins. This amazing man touched so many lives with his intensely wonderful personality.

Calling hours for paying respect to Mark’s loved ones will be held at Swan Funeral Home, Main Street, Clinton, on Saturday, March 23 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. A reception for family and close friends will follow at 6 p.m. Donations in Mark’s memory (those wishing may do so): American Epilepsy Society: https://www.aesnet.org/about_aes/donate; Brain & Behavior Research Foundation: https://www.bbrfoundation.org/; or Paws with a Cause: https://www.pawswithacause.org/donate/.
