Old Saybrook

Frederick Jackson Williams, 87, of Old Saybrook, died unexpectedly in Old Saybrook on Jan. 24. He was born in Schenectady, New York, Sept. 9, 1931, to Emmett Eugene Williams and Laura Bell Faulconer.

Fred was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He went on to have a distinguished career as an engineer at the Naval Underwater Systems Lab until retirement. A 55-year member of the Masons, he helped in the construction of the Bay View Lodge in Niantic. Fred also had a lifelong interest in amateur radio.

Fred is survived by his loving wife Hilda of Old Saybrook; and his sons Frederick J. Williams, Jr., and his partner Barbara of Leominster, Massachusetts, Barry M. Williams of Wellesley, Massachusetts, Glenn E. Williams and his wife Christina of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, Charles A. Williams and his wife Michele of Kissimmee, Florida, and Guy F. Williams and his wife Renee of Londonderry, New Hampshire. He is also survived by his brother Gene and his wife Carol of Martinez, California, and his nieces Deborah, Laura, Marie, and Anne; and his wife’s family Charles R. Rau. Sr., of Higganum, and Charles R. Rau, Jr., and his wife Danielle of East Hampton. He also has 10 living grandchildren.

The funeral service was held at Grace Episcopal Church in Old Saybrook on Feb. 9. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Fred’s memory to the Eastern Connecticut Amateur Radio Association.
