Clinton

Gertrude (Trudy) R. Stannard, 102, passed away on Feb. 7. She was born in Middletown to the late Ludwig Rasch and Anne (Froehlich) Rasch.

She graduated Woodrow Wilson High School in Middletown before relocating to Washington, DC, where she was employed by the government for 10 years. Upon returning to the area, she worked for Precision Timer Company in Westbrook for 18 years. Trudy was married to Lawrence H. Stannard, Sr., on Jan. 7, 1950. He served as a technician in the 2nd Armored Division. Her husband predeceased her.

Trudy always wore a smile with her upbeat stylish outfits. She loved to surprise people with her age as she was most active and didn’t look a day over 70. She was a pillar in her community. Trudy was an active member of the Clinton Historical Society, The Garden Arbor Club, “Dinghies,” The Clinton Cemetery Association, and the Lutheran church of Madison.

She was predeceased by her sister Lydia Pistel (Robert), and her brothers Alfred Rasch (Ethel) and Ernest Rasch (Dorothia). Trudy is survived by her daughter Linda Wysocki of Sweden, Maine; her son Lawrence Stannard, Jr., (Cindy) of Salem, Connecticut; granddaughter Kelly Leibowitz (Adam) of Salem, Massachusetts; as well as nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Feb. 14 at Robinson, Wright, & Weymer Funeral Home in Centerbrook. Trudy’s funeral service will be held on Feb. 15 at the Lutheran Church of Madison. Memorial Contributions may be made in her name to the Clinton Historical Society, 103 E. Main St., Clinton, CT 06413.
