Clinton

Frank Mendillo, 93, husband of Carmel of Clinton, passed away peacefully on Jan. 13. His family and close friends were by his side. Frank was born on Dec. 7, 1925, in New Haven, to the late Antonio Mendillo and Antoinette Biondi.

Frank was a veteran of WWII and served in the US Navy aboard the USS Pringle. The ship was attacked and sank in the South Pacific in April of 1945. Frank and the surviving members were stranded in the Pacific Ocean for hours before being rescued. For his service he received the WWII Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal.

Frank was a lifelong resident of Clinton, where he made his life with Carmel and their two children Doreen and Frank Jr. He worked as a garment cutter in the New Haven area for fifty years. He enjoyed singing, dancing, and was often known as the life of the party. Frank was also a grandfather to Kaitlin and Garett Wieczorek, who have been a part of his generosity and humorous ways from childhood to their adult lives.

Frank is survived by his wife Carmel of 66 years, his son Frank Jr., his daughter Doreen Wieczorek, his son-in-law Douglass, and his grandchildren Kaitlin and Garett Wieczorek. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends who will always remember him with a smile.

Funeral services will begin from the Swan Funeral Home, Clinton, on Jan. 19, followed by the Funeral Liturgy at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Clinton. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven. Visitation hours will be Jan. 18 at the Swan Funeral Home.
