Irene J. Smith of Cornfield Point, Old Saybrook, died on Jan. 10 at the age of 94. She was the widow of Howard F. Smith and was predeceased by her son James. She is survived by her son Stephen, his wife Tracy, granddaughter Eloise, son-in-law Nick, her sister Jean of La Mesa, California, and many nieces and nephews.

Born in West Hartford on March 23, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Emily and Felix Lawrynowicz. She loved to garden, was a member of the Hart House Garden Ladies, volunteered at the Estuary Council Senior Center, and was very fond of her YMCA pool friends.

Memorial services will be held at St. John’s Church in Old Saybrook on Jan. 19 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Estuary Council of Seniors in Old Saybrook.
