Branford

Anthony Manzi, 90, of Branford, died on Nov. 15 at Watrous Nursing Home, Madison. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Torre Manzi. He was born in New Haven on May 15, 1928, to the late Peter and Carmella Esposito Manzi.

He worked for Armstrong Rubber for 20 years as a machinist and welder, until they closed their factory in West Haven. He then went to work for Metal Masters from 1983 until finally retiring in 1990. Anthony was also a handyman who could fix anything (even if it wasn’t broken). He was a skilled clam shucker, working for Amarante’s Sea Cliff and The Chowder Pot III in Branford. He was also a coach for both hockey and football at the East Shore rink and field and was a member of the East Shore Football Association. He loved to entertain and all were welcome to sit by his pool in the back yard and enjoy good food and company. He was also an avid New York Jets and Rangers fan.

He is survived by three daughters, Michele A. Miller of Branford, Marybeth A. Zarlingo of Washington, New Hampshire, and Maria A. Manzi of Branford. He is also survived by two grandsons, Kevin (Abby) Miller and Paul Zarlingo. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, William “Paul” and Joseph Manzi, and two sisters, Mary Chiafolo and Anna Ferrigno.

There was a funeral service Nov. 21 at the East Haven Memorial Longobardi-Brennan Funeral Home, 425 Main St., East Haven, 203-467-1708. Burial took place in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
