East Haven

It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of Victoria Chapin, 97. Vicky lived a long, happy, and fulfilled life. Mother of five, she was born in Chicopee, Massachusetts, in August 1921 to Andrew and Anna Chmiel Zmuda, and moved to East Haven in 1958 with her husband Henry of 55 years to raise their family and become part of the community. Vicky had an extraordinary talent for crafts and created various pieces that will continue to be enjoyed by family and friends. She worked as seamstress, convenience store manager, and volunteer while raising her family.

Predeceased by her husband Henry and eldest son Douglas, she always had a smile and kind word for those who shared her life. Vicky leaves behind a daughter, Deborah Cangiano (Anthony) of East Haven; three sons, Darryl Chapin (Sylvia) of Branford, Daniel Chapin of North Branford, and Dwight Chapin (Leona) of Gainesville, Florida; daughter-in-law Nancy Leary of Middletown; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Vicky spent her last few years at the Village at Mariners point in East Haven, where she enjoyed the company of the residents and staff who contributed to making her final years exciting and entertaining.

At her request, there will be no public services. Instead the family requests that those wishing to pay respects make a contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association in her name at act.alz.org/site/TR.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Village for the wonderful care and comfort they provided, contributing to a fulfilled life.
