Westbrook

Betty Spash, age 75, wife of Bruce Spash of Westbrook, passed away on Oct. 25 at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a long illness with her family by her side. Betty was born on May 16, 1943, in Norwalk to the late Charles and Maud Beach Varian.

Prior to marriage Betty resided in Norwalk, where she attended and graduated from Norwalk High School. Betty married Bruce Spash in 1963 and they made their home in Westbrook, where she was a parishioner at Westbrook Congregational Church. She was a wife and mother who cherished time spent with her family. Betty devoted her life to staying home and raising her five children. A lighthearted women, she had a loving and gentle nature with a great sense of humor. She will be most remembered for taking care of 105 foster children.

In addition to her husband Bruce, she is survived by her two sons, Richard Spash and his wife Elizabeth Fernandes and Robert Spash; three daughters, Lisa, Kaitlyn, and Elizabeth Spash; grandchildren Harmony, Keylanna, “RJ,” Gabriela, and Adriana; as well as her special pets Prickers, Butter Cup, and Noel.

Betty’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff at Yale-New Haven Hospital for their wonderful care, along with the family and friends who showed many acts of kindness and support during her illness.
