Punta Gorda, Florida and Clinton

Niels E. Jensen, 93, of Punta Gorda, Florida, and Clinton, passed from this life to be with our Lord on July 20. He was born in Helsinki, Finland, on May 2, 1925, to the late Charles R. Jensen and Astrid V. (Hanson) Jensen. He was married to Barbara A. Jensen on June 28, 1947. Barbara predeceased Niels in 2017.

Niels moved to the United States with his parents and grew up in Bronx, New York. Niels met his wife in New York and they were married on June 28, 1947. In 1956 they moved their family to Clinton. In 2005, they retired to Punta Gorda, Florida.

Niels is survived by his sons Robert and wife Lana and Russell and wife Bonnie and five grandchildren: David and wife Paulina, Eric and wife Eva, Lauren Keating and husband Andrew, Kirsten, and Alexandra. He was predeceased by his two sisters Kara Marie and Edith; his three brothers Paul, Herbert, and Emil; and son Peter.

Niels was an avid golfer. He was The Clinton Country Club champion in 1961. Until very recently, he played 18 holes up to three times a week. He was a 32nd degree mason and grand master of the Jeptha Lodge 95 of Clinton. He served for two terms on the Clinton Board of Education and Clinton Police Commission. Niels was an active member of the Pilgrim United Church of Christ of Port Charlotte, Florida. Contributions may be made in his memory to Pilgrim United Church of Christ of Port Charlotte, Florida.

A graveside service is planned at the Indian River Cemetery, Clinton, on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 1 p.m.
