Ildiko Helmeczi, MD, of Madison, passed away peacefully at home with her family and friends by her side on Oct. 3. She was born on March 13, 1956, in Debrecen, Hungary, the daughter of Borbala Kovacs and András Helmeczi.

Ildiko received her doctor of medicine degree from the University of Debrecen and continued to practice medicine after moving to the United States. Ildiko was known to her patients and colleagues as a compassionate, caring, and hard-working physician.

Ildiko was an incredible cook and gardener. Often, you could find her preparing meals for her friends and family or tending her beautiful garden. Ildiko’s greatest passion was for traveling. She also loved the outdoors, frequently going for walks or bike rides in the warmer weather and skiing in the winter.

A loving, kind, and generous mother, Ildiko will be greatly missed by her daughter Monica Morenz of Madison and Monica’s father Mark Morenz of Higganum. She is survived by her brother András (Eszter) Helmeczi, Jr., of Budapest, Hungary, her niece Gina Helmeczi, and many other loving relatives and close friends.
