North Haven

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of George A. Gorman, 92, on Sept. 21 at the Masonicare Health Center, Wallingford. He was the beloved husband of 68 years to Mary T. Read Gorman. George was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on Sept. 11, 1926, and was the son of the late George A. and Mary Blake Gorman.

He served his country faithfully in the US Navy during WWII. George earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Boston University and was a teacher for both the Newton and Wellesley, Massachusetts, school systems. He was a salesman for a text book company and a bagpiper. George was a member of the American Legion, Murray/Reynolds Post #76, and the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association.

He was the father of Nancy Gorman, George E. Gorman, and Margaret Libertino and her husband Bertram. He was the grandfather of Kimberly (Logan) Selby, Jessica (William) Redmon, and Nicole Libertino; and the brother of Robert Gorman and Valerie LaCross. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.

His funeral procession left the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., on Sept. 28. Family and friends called prior to the procession. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Barnabas Church. Interment with full military honors followed in All Saints Cemetery.
