Guilford

William J. Seery, Jr., a longtime resident of Guilford, passed away peacefully at The Guilford House with his wife by his side on Sept. 11 at the age of 80. Bill was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Liz) Benevento. He was born in Queens, New York, on June 11, 1938, son of the late William and Laura (Page) Seery.

Bill is survived by his children William Patrick Seery of Virginia, Jean (Steven) Annen of Missouri, Michael Thomas Seery (Ratree Tipsaeng, fiancée) of Virginia, and his beloved stepdaughter Keri Ann Rosini. Bill is also survived by his sister Lorraine (Allan) Longo of Huntington, New York, and his half-brother, the late Joseph (Mary) Kist.

Dr. Seery honorably served his country in the Navy from 1956 to 1962 and specifically in the Cuban Missile Crisis aboard the USS Remey. He served as an electronics technician with the rank of petty officer second class. Bill went on to work nights for the New York Telephone Co. while attending CCNU in New York. He continued his education at the Chiropractic Institute of New York. Upon graduation Bill moved his family to Guilford and took over Dr. White’s practice, eventually opening his own practice, William J. Seery Chiropractic on Church Street in Guilford. His career spanned 37 years until his retirement in 2006.

During Bill’s career he served as president of the Connecticut Chiropractic Association from 1978 to 1980. Bill was instrumental in procuring insurance reimbursement for chiropractic care. Dr. Seery was a longtime member of the Guilford Rotary. Bill’s hobbies included flying single-engine planes, scuba diving, classical music, personal enrichment college-level courses, and extensive travel.

Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian burial at St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford, on Sept. 22 at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks for donations to be made in William’s name to either Connecticut Chiropractic Association, P.O.
