Chester

John F. Pogwizd Jr., 57, beloved husband of Lisa M. Pogwizd, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 31 at his home in Chester. John was born on Nov. 6, 1960, in New Haven to John and Dorothy Pogwizd.

He was a graduate of Morgan High School and earned an associate’s degree from Middlesex Community College. John was employed by Connecticut Shellfish Company for 27 years before his retirement in 2015. He was also a faithful parishioner of St. Mary’s Church of the Visitation in Clinton. John enjoyed the outdoors and spent most of his time fishing, tending to his garden, and cooking. John will be most remembered for his loving nature and sense of humor.

In addition to his wife Lisa, he is survived and will be dearly missed by his son Johnathan Pogwizd of East Haddam; his parents John and Dorothy Pogwizd of Clinton; a sister, Kathleen Pogwizd Pontillo and her husband Larry of Manhattan; a sister-in-law, Barbara Langevin Scheiding and her husband Jeffrey of Delta, Colorado; and a special cat, Maya, from Forgotten Felines, who chose John to love and care for her.

Swan Funeral Home in Clinton handled the arrangements. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Sept. 5 at St. Mary’s Church of the Visitation in Clinton. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to Key Human Services, 1290 Silas Deane Highway, Ste. 1A, Wethersfield, CT 06109.
