Guilford

Marjorie Watson Dudley passed away peacefully at her home on Tanner Marsh Road in Guilford on Sept. 6. Marjorie was born the second of four children in Westborough, Massachusetts, on Oct. 7, 1923, daughter of the late Zelner and Helen Seaman Watson.

She was predeceased by her husband Vernon F. Dudley, a son, Wayne (Mary Lou) Dudley, and an infant daughter Kate. She is survived by children Judy (John) Sullivan of Guilford, Noel (Barbara) Dudley of Virginia, and Lyle (Laverne) Dudley of Guilford. She was the grandmother of J.P. (Cindy), Janna, Jeff (Catlin), Amelia, Elizabeth (Lior), Mathew (Krysta), Luke, Jane, and Nathan. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, Makena, Maile, Abigail, Ainsley, John, Nofar, Lia, James, and Charlotte.

Marjorie grew up in Massachusetts and graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. After graduation she was recruited by the Guilford school system to teach home economics. She moved to Guilford, where she met her future husband Vernon Dudley of Hill Crest Farm, began her decades-long teaching career, married, and raised four children.

During their retirement Marjorie and Vernon traveled extensively until Vernon’s passing in 2005. She volunteered at many Guilford organizations, including the Hole in the Wall, voting polls, blood mobile, Friends of the Guilford Free Library, and Guilford Elementary Schools Colonial Days.

Marjorie was one of five women still living from the original Tanner Marsh neighborhood gang. She was a strong woman, a loving mom and grammy, and will be missed by friends and family.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial graveside service on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. at Alder Brook Cemetery, 375 Boston St., Guilford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dudley Foundation, 2351 Durham Rd., Guilford; The Guilford Free Library, 67 Park St., Guilford; or the First Congregational Church, 122 Broad St., Guilford, CT 06437.
