Branford

Mary Ann (Demers) True of Branford entered into eternal rest on Aug. 29. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Richard True. Mary was born in Gardiner, Maine, on Feb. 12, 1924, daughter of the late Wilfrid and Ann (Brann) Demers, and sister to Augustus and Thomas.

She was a graduate of St. Joseph College in Maine. After moving to Branford in 1952, she was a long-time communicant at St. Elizabeth Church, and then St. Mary Church in Branford. In addition to dedicating her life to her family, she also volunteered at St. Mary Church and at St. Mary School. She was also a teacher’s aide at the New Short Beach School in Branford. Her house was always open to the neighborhood kids, often with the smell of fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies in the air.

Mary is survived by her children Richard (Karen) True of Branford, Margaret (the late James) Bruno of Branford, John (Joan Clark) True of Palmyra, Virginia, and Stephen (Tina) True of Rangeley, Maine; her grandchildren Richard, Stephen, Justin, Kathleen, Elizabeth, and Joshua; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Ann Louise True.

Visiting hours were Sept. 4 at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 N. Main St., Branford. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Sept. 5 at St. Mary Church, Branford. Burial will be in Maine at a later date.
