Chester

George Mitchell LaCross, Sr., 79, of Chester, went home to the arms of his Savior, along with those of his late wife Ann (Richter) LaCross, on Sept. 3. Born Sept. 23, 1938, in Montgomery Center, Vermont, he was the son of the late Leon and Dorothea (Hardy) LaCross.

He was a veritable “Jack of all trades” with a strong work ethic to provide for his family. George will be remembered for his love of classic cars, but most importantly for always putting others first, with wit, wisdom, a heart of gold, and a wonderful sense of humor. Mr. LaCross was a devoted and faith-filled member of the Colchester Bible Baptist Church and volunteered in many capacities over the years.

Survivors include two children and their spouses, George and Leslie LaCross, Jr., of Chester, and Ann Marie and Brian Brush of Springfield, Illinois; four grandchildren, Michael LaCross, Lisa Repscher (and her husband Zakre), George LaCross III, and Meagan Ward; two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Landon; six siblings, Albert LaCross of New York; Glenna Jones, Ruby Coyne, Barbara Allen, and MaryJane Brown, all of Bennington, Vermont, and Dorothea Hart of North Carolina. He is also survived by a special sister-in-law Katherine Fernett and brother-in-law Terry Fernett, both of Chester; and numerous extended family and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Olivia Brush; and three brothers, Leon Cross, and Leroy and John LaCross.

The family will receive guests 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester. The Funeral Service will be observed 10 a.m. Sept. 7 directly at the Colchester Bible Baptist Church, 38 Chestnut Hill Rd., Colchester. Burial will follow at Fountain Hill Cemetery, Deep River. Donations in his memory may be made to the church. For an online obituary, visit www.auroramccarthyfuneralhome.com.
