John R. “Bob” Alex, 88, longtime resident of North Branford, passed away peacefully on Aug. 3 at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford with his devoted daughter by his side. He was born on March 13, 1930, to the late John and Victoria Alex of Branford.

John was a retired truck driver from Gallo Wine Merchants and Canada Dry Beverage Co., and a longtime member of the Teamsters Local 443. He had a passion for landscaping and was known as the neighbor with the “greenest” lawn all year round.

He was the devoted husband of the late Elizabeth (Cooper) Alex. He is survived by his daughter Betty (Steven) Celone of North Branford; and sons Thomas Alex of Northford and Mark (Dawn) Alex of Branford. He is also survived by his grandchildren Alicia Celone of North Branford, who was his pride and joy, Lisa and Michelle Alex of Northford, and Joshua Alex of Branford; his great-grandson Alex of Northford; as well as several special nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call Aug. 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Keenan Funeral Home located at 330 Notch Hill Rd., North Branford, with burial immediately following at the All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
