Guilford

Dennis C. Marden, Sr., of Guilford, passed to his eternal rest on June 30 at the age of 77 after a brief illness, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Patricia A. Marden. He was predeceased by his mother Elizabeth Bristol, father Nathaniel Marden, and infant son Charlie. He leaves behind his two sons, Dennis C. Marden, Jr. (Vicky) of Durham, and Arthur F. Marden (Kathy) of Hampton; and a brother Douglas Marden (Dorothy) of Durham. He also leaves behind four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dennis proudly served in The Army National Guard Reserves as a medical specialist. He was an active member of GCTV from 1975 to 1989. He coached junior football and Little League baseball. Dennis was a dedicated past master of St. Albans Lodge #38; a royal arch mason and past high priest at Franklin Chapter #2; past illustrious master of Harmony Council; and was once a noble of the Pyramid Shrine of Milford. He worked for the following organizations: Stanley Works as a tractor trailer driver, Royal Messenger as an independent courier, Cintas, Sarah Inc. as a van driver, Evergreen Woods in resident transportation, and Laidlaw Transit and Durham School Services as a school bus operator. He also worked for Moroso and Guilford Savings.

He was an avid learner and acquired certifications as a CNA, pharmacy technician, phlebotomy technician, and physical therapy aide. He briefly worked as a CNA for Fowler Nursing Center (Apple Rehab), Home Health Care, Essex Meadows, and at Old Saybrook Convalescent House as a rehabilitation technician. He volunteered for Meals On Wheels. Prior to his retirement on Sept. 1, 2017, he worked as a CNA for the VNA in Guilford for approximately 15 years. Also, he compassionately volunteered his services up to two weeks prior to his admission as a patient at Apple Rehab.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church on the Green, Guilford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Apple Rehab Guilford, Christ Episcopal Church, Guilford, or The Masonic Charity Foundation, Wallingford.
