Old Saybrook

Henry Robert Smith, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 26. He was born on May 29, 1936. His father was Joseph Smith and his mother was Marion Molyneux Smith.

Henry never complained and always had a good word to say, even in sickness. He was married to Georgia Palmer Smith for 59 years and they raised five children together. Henry served in the military as a young man and later worked for the town of Old Saybrook. Years later, Henry opened his own business delivering wood and clearing lots. Henry was the first to help anyone in need, always putting others’ happiness before his own. His mere presence put people at ease; he always waved and spoke to anyone he could.

Left to honor Henry and remember his love are his wife Georgia, his children Henry Smith, Albert Smith, Harry Smith, Georgia McNary and his son-in-law David McNary. Henry was predeceased by his son Ricky Smith. For the past 20 years, Henry loved, cherished, and mentored his three grandchildren Coral, Caitlin, and Marissa McNary. His love of the South was evident, and the countless trips he took with his wife and grandkids made him glow with stories upon every return.

Family, friends, and those whose lives Henry has touched are invited to Swan Funeral Home in Old Saybrook on July 6. Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. We welcome you to reminisce, grieve, and celebrate Henry and the impactful life he lived.
