North Haven

Stanley A. Sosienski, 90, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on June 19 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Vera D’Agostino Sosienski. Stanley was born in New Haven on June 16, 1928, and was the son of the late John and Anne Dobkowski; after the death of his mother when he was three days old, he was adopted by Anthony and Alexandra Sosienski who predeceased him.

He graduated from Ansonia High School and obtained master’s degrees in psychology and sociology. He worked at Kopel Photo Engraving. Stanley joined the National Guard in 1950, was activated during the Korean War, and was so proud to have served in the US Army for 32 years, retiring as a lieutenant colonel (LTC). He worked for the Catholic Cemeteries Association as a manager at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven, and later transferred as a regional manager in Waterbury until his retirement.

He was the father-in-law of Lisa Sosienski; the stepfather of Lori Cifarelli and Drew Anthony; the grandfather of Staci (Michael) Weaver, James (Lisa) Cifarelli, and Jeffrey (Ciara) Cifarelli; and the great-grandfather of Alexandrea, Joshua, and Zachary Weaver. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Stanley A. Sosienski, Jr.; brothers Frank, Joe, and John Dobkowski; and sisters Mary Chapman, Sophia Dobkowski, and Anna Jadach.

The family would like to extend a “Special Thank You” to all the nurses and staff at Neuro Surgery 6th Floor, Yale-New Haven Hospital for the excellent comfort and care they gave to Stanley.

His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., on June 23 at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church at 11:30 a.m. Entombment with full military honors will follow in the All Saints Cemetery Mausoleum.
