Kenneth Picciano, 71, of East Haven, formerly of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Milford, died at Connecticut Hospice surrounded by his loving family on May 24. He was the husband of Maureen Symington Picciano. He was born in Mount Vernon, New York, on July 24, 1946, to the late Carmine “Harry” and Anne Perito Picciano.

Ken worked for several different YMCA’s from Wilmington, North Carolina, to Wallingford and Branford as a director of membership. He also worked for STAR, Inc., a nonprofit organization in Norwalk that helped to improve the lives of adults with developmental disabilities. He handled their transportation. He was also a proud veteran of the US Army, serving his country during Vietnam. Besides his family, Ken’s other passions included volunteering his time to the needy, jogging, and the New York Yankees.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Nicholas (Katherine) Picciano of St. Augustine, Florida; a daughter, Kristin (Craig) Carlson of Derby; and two grandchildren, Mara Picciano and Shane Carlson. He was predeceased by a sister, Lucille Janniello.

There was a funeral mass June 2 at St. Vincent de Paul Church of St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish. Burial was private and at the convenience of the family. Friends called prior to the mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
