Branford

James L. Martino, 75, of Branford passed away on June 18 at Connecticut Hospice after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Harriet Hillier Martino. James was born in New Haven on Sept. 19, 1942, the son of the late John L. and Jane (Beck) Martino.

He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. James worked as a salesman for the Kleban Corporation for many years. After leaving Kleban, he worked as a dealer at Foxwoods Resort and Casino. James, an avid golfer, passed his love for sports down to his grandchildren. His favorite place to be was either on the golf course at his Florida resort or attending one of his grandchildren’s sporting events in Connecticut.

Besides his wife, James is survived by his children Deborah (Terence) Mariani of Durham, James (Karen) Martino of Killingworth, Richard (Donna) Irzyk of Branford, and Jeffrey (Angela) Irzyk of Guilford; his sister Judith (Dominick) Mastrony of Guilford; and 11 grandchildren, Zach (18), Jimmy (17), Sophia (17), Ben (16), Charlie (15), Alison (14), Alayna (12), Lowen (11), Jolie (8), Julianna (6), and Lennon (3).

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian burial June 23 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Branford. There are no calling hours and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
