Killingworth

Gertrude Mullane, 89, passed away peacefully with her family present at Gladeview Nursing Home on May 24. She was born in the Bronx, New York, on Jan. 26, 1929. She was the daughter of Mary Ellen Ryan Fisher and William Fisher.

While employed as an executive secretary at Con Edison New York, she met and married Jeremiah A. Mullane, detective NYPD who died in 1993 after 41 years of marital bliss. They had six children. Gertrude ran a busy household along with a wide variety of jobs. She worked as a Special Ed school bus driver, as a medical office administrative assistant, and in the town assessor’s office in Clarkstown, New York. Her many volunteer and leisure activities included Girl Scout leader, Columbiette, Miami Shores Garden Club, the golf league, health and fitness, and singing while working around the house. She was always an enthusiastic parishioner at her local Catholic churches. Gertrude was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by 5 children, Daniel and his wife Claudia, Mary Ellen and husband Richard Stucky, Jeremiah and wife Anne, Maureen and husband Donald Dulmer, and Thomas and wife, Michelle. Beloved son Timothy preceded her in death in 1980. She had 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren whom she adored. Gertrude was the loving matriarch of her family and a loyal friend to many everywhere. She lived from New York, Miami Shores and Vero Beach, Florida, Hingham, Massachusetts, and Killingworth.

She was adored for her fun-loving sense of humor and generosity, Her spirit lives on amidst her family who learned from her resilience, generosity, and strong character. The Lehigh University rowing crew dedicated their racing shell “The Gregarious Gertrude” in her honor in 2004. Three of her children, son-in-law, and granddaughter were educated at Lehigh. She will be missed greatly and loved always.

A Mass Celebrating Gertrude’s life will be held in St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church in Killingworth on June 14 at 4:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest with her husband Jeremiah and her son Timothy, in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, New York, on June 15. She has joined them finally in Heaven with all of God’s glory, which she richly earned and deserved. A generous, giving, “bundle of love,” her spirit lives on through her family.
