Old Saybrook

Jean Frances (Baldoni) Austin passed away peacefully April 26 after a brief illness. She was born on Jan. 31, 1936, the devoted daughter of Egidio and Pearl Baldoni.

As a lifelong Old Saybrook resident, she graduated Old Saybrook High School in 1954. She married and raised her family close to her parents, sister, and extended family. She worked outside the home for 22 years as a clerk for the Hartford Courant until her retirement in 1995. She married her devoted husband of 30 years, Frederick Austin, in 1987, who took great care of her, especially in her later years. She found great pleasure as a huge UConn women’s basketball fan and as a season ticket holder of the Connecticut Sun, where she sat 7th row, center court, for 12 years. Her absolute favorite thing to do was to spend time with her family.

She will be remembered for her incredible strength, meticulous attention to detail, and her immense love for her family.

Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Cynthia Sabia of Clinton; a son, Richard Moore of Westbrook; and her grandsons Nicholas Sabia of Somerville, Massachusetts, and Shaun Sabia of Altamonte Springs, Florida. She leaves two stepdaughters, Beth-Ann Hull of Chester, and her children Amanda and Nathan Hull, and Barbara Kanizaj, her husband Rob, and their children James and Matthew Kanizaj of Old Saybrook. She was predeceased by her eldest son Gregory Moore and her sister and best friend, Elizabeth “Betty” Varney.

Arrangements were in the care of Swan Funeral Home, Old Saybrook. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Hospice unit at Middlesex Memorial Hospital, Office of Philanthropy, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457.
