Killingworth

James John Carroll died peacefully at home after a long illness on April 13 surrounded by his family. He was born on Oct. 20, 1929, in New Haven to Cahill James Carroll and Ann Crowley Carroll.

He attend Hopkins Grammar School, graduating in 1947. James went to the University of Connecticut (UConn). After graduating in 1952, he served in the Marines during the Korean War. After serving and while working in insurance, he earned his JD at UConn. James practiced law for more than 35 years in New Haven at the Firm McGrail, Carroll and Sheedy. He was a resident of Killingworth, where he was a founding member of the Lions Club and served on the Board of Finance.

James is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Hallisey Carroll; his son John Carroll; his daughter Elisabeth Carroll Colunio and son-in-law Daniel Colunio; his granddaughters Catherine and Caroline; and his sister Joan Carroll Williams of Glenview, Illinois. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Carroll.

Friends may greet the family on April 27 at the Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Rd., Madison, from 4 to 7 p.m. Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
