Westbrook

Rose Marie (Tierney) Collopy, recently of Westbrook, passed away peacefully on April 13. She was 89 years old. She was born and raised in Maysville, Kentucky, a few doors down from her future husband, Tom Collopy.

After graduating valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of their high school class, they followed each other to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she graduated as an RN from Good Samaritan Hospital nursing school, married, and bore five children. The family moved to St. Louis, Missouri, and resided there for 11 years before a final move to Westbrook.

She was strong-willed, hard-working, and giving. She raised a large, close-knit family and enjoyed a long career as a caring nurse. She was the daughter of Paul and Alice Tierney and beloved wife of the late Thomas Joseph Collopy for 58 years. She was the dear and devoted mother/(mother-in-law) of Tim (Ceil) Collopy, Alice (Ed) Ninteau, Carla (Tom) Martin, Maria (Jim) Braun, and Gina (Steve) O’Connell. She was the loving grandmother of 11; the sister/(sister-in-law) of Kathleen (Scott) Ware and Paul (Pat) Tierney, and the late Jack and Louise Collopy; and the aunt of many dear nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on April 17 at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 222 McVeagh Rd. in Westbrook. Burial followed in the Resurrection Cemetery in Westbrook.
