Old Saybrook

Michele L’Heureux Elpi passed away suddenly on April 5 while at home in Old Saybrook. She was born on June 1, 1950, to the late Irene and Dr. Jerome L’Heureux in Meriden, where she grew up.

Michele attended St. Laurent School, Mercy High School in Middletown, Rivier College in Nashua, New Hampshire, and Paier College of Art in Hamden, where she earned a bachelor of fine arts degree and then studied at Yale Art School. Her varied career includes advertising, public relations, and medical illustration of a book called Total Care of the Stroke Victim, which is in the Library of Congress. Michele was an accomplished, award-winning artist. She exhibited and sold her paintings throughout New England and at the Seascape Art Gallery in Old Saybrook. Her work is included in private collections throughout the US, Europe, and the Far East. Michele was always thoughtful and caring of others and a fun-loving person, full of laughter with a positive outlook on life.

She is survived by her husband John Elpi and her six siblings, Pierre L’Heureux and wife Carol of Meriden; Jean L’Heureux of Las Vegas; Marie Therese Gelinas and husband Dave of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts; Andre L’Heureux and wife Nancy of Madison; Suzanne Shulga and husband Scott of San Juan Capistrano, California; and Jacques L’Heureux and wife Jody of Fishersville, Virginia. She is also survived by John Elpi’s four adult children and dozens of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Swan Funeral Home at 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook, on April 21 at 11 a.m. A burial will follow at the Cypress Cemetery on College Street (Rte. 154), Old Saybrook.
