Kevin Patrick Farrell


Formerly of Old Saybrook

Kevin Patrick Farrell, 81, of Sumter, South Carolina, and formerly of Old Saybrook, loving husband of Gail Wininger Farrell for 58 years, passed away March 27 in Sumter.

Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was a son of the late Patrick and Eileen McNamara Farrell. After his graduation from Mitchell College in New London, Mr. Farrell worked for three decades at Aetna Life Insurance Company. He worked with Aetna as it embraced computer automation in the 1950s and saw the evolution of computer technology, retiring as a director of Information Systems Support/Corporate Technology Services. He then started a second career working at the Saybrook Point Inn for 20 years. Mr. Farrell was active in St John’s Church as a trustee and with the Men’s Club. He had been a member of the Old Saybrook Democratic Town Committee.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Kevin J. Farrell (Lisa) of Old Saybrook, Patrick J. Farrell of Lagrangeville, New York; two daughters, Pamela Longwell (James) of West Cornwall and Teresa Bell (Scott) of Sumter; six grandchildren, Timothy Farrell, Kristen Farrell, Madeleine Longwell, Emily Bell, Patrick Bell, and Evan Bell; two sisters, Mary Frances Ryder of New Milford and Brenda Farrell of Quincy, Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were held April 6 at Swan Funeral Home, Old Saybrook. A Mass of Christian burial was held April 7 at St John’s Roman Catholic Church in Old Saybrook. Swan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
