Old Saybrook and St. Augustine, Florida

Donald Joseph Kenny passed away on Feb. 5 with his loving family at his side. He was born Feb. 10, 1937, in Fall River, Massachusetts, to the late Joseph Edward and Alice Mary (Simonetti) Kenny. Don was predeceased by his sister Barbara Ann.

A graduate from Norwalk High School in 1955, he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy and spent four years on active duty, proudly serving his country and traveling the world. Don married his beloved wife Anna Marie (Zanazzo) in 1962 and they spent 56 dedicated, loving years together. They raised their four daughters in Old Saybrook, and just recently, after 45 years, moved to St. Augustine, Florida.

Don was the devoted father of Patricia Kenny of Orlando, Florida; Kat Pineda of Orlando, Florida; Erin and Mike Bicho of Westport, Massachusetts; and Cara and Christian Chandler of Ashfield, Massachusetts. He was the loving grandfather of Marcus, Koral, and Donald Pineda; Julia and John Bicho; and Christian Chandler.

A lifelong sports fan, Don loved his Red Sox and UConn women's basketball. He also enjoyed golfing, the beach, making clam chowder and "stuffies," and eating fresh-caught blue crabs on the deck with his family and friends. Don was a loving family man who opened his home and heart to many people over the years.

Don was a member of St. John Church in Old Saybrook, the Knights of Columbus, and the Elks Club. We were very blessed to have enjoyed him for so long, and are better people because of him.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children in memory of Don Kenny are appreciated. A Memorial Mass will be held in Old Saybrook in summer 2018.
