Richard G. “Dick” Ertelt, 75, of Centerbrook, beloved husband of Kim Petrosky Ertelt, passed away at home on Feb. 17. Dick was born in Hamden on May 4, 1942. He was the son of the late Richard A. and Marie Gerard Ertelt.

Dick served with pride and honor in the U.S. Navy, and worked alongside his father and brother building homes. Later he was a stock broker with Merrill Lynch in New Haven, and branched off to the insurance division. Dick was the owner and operator of The Insurance Mart. He and his wife Kim bought the Wine Cask from his father-in-law in 2000, and kept it until his retirement in 2014.

Dick loved people, life, and the outdoors. He enjoyed boating and fishing on Long Island Sound. He was a lifelong golfer and an avid griller. He will be greatly missed.

Besides his wife Kim, he is survived by his children, daughter Sandy and son-in-law Jim Biron of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, and his son Stephen and daughter-in-law Susan Ertelt of S. Dartmouth, Massachusetts; his sister Penny and brother-in-law Gary Gamingo of Aiken, South Carolina; and two brothers, Douglas and sister-in-law Ele Ertelt of Belmont, Massachusetts, and Barry and sister-in-law Pam Ertelt of Guilford. He loved and was very proud of his four grandchildren, Geoffrey, Molly, Zachary, and Abby Biron. He is also survived by a niece, Meryl Ertelt.
