Clinton

James A. Christiana, Jr., 87, of Clinton, passed away on Jan. 12 at home. He was the beloved husband of Jane Christiana. Jim was born in Hartford on Oct. 1, 1930.

He lived in Connecticut for six years until the family moved to Agawam, Massachusetts, and then to Springfield, Massachusetts. Jim was married in 1955. Jane and Jim lived in Springfield after marriage where their three children were born. In 1962 the family moved to Clinton. Jim served in the Navy for four years. He was a Korean War veteran. After moving to Clinton he became a finished carpenter. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Clinton. He loved the Internet and playing games on Pogo. Jim also loved animals. His favorite was his dog Snitzel. After his dog passed away he settled for two cats, Wally and Petey. Jim had a great talent for painting. He was having a good time with it until the arthritis in his hands got too bad.

Besides his wife Jane, he leaves his children Karen Gasparini of Midlothian, Virginia, and her husband Jeff, and Kathy King of Old Lyme and her husband Andy. His son Curtis predeceased him in 2006. In addition he is survived by his grandchildren Lauren and Patrick Gasparini, and Daniel who predeceased him, and Jake and Sam King. He also leaves his three sisters, Joann Preziosi and her husband John of Wethersfield, Paula Antico and her husband Bruno of Agawam, Massachusetts, and Bernadette Christiana of Georgia; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents James, Sr. and Jennie DeGruttola.

Calling hours were held on Jan. 14 at Swan Funeral Home, 80 E. Main St., Clinton. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Jan. 15 at St. Mary’s Church, Grove Street, Clinton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Mary’s Church, 54 Grove St., Clinton, CT 06413.
