Branford

John W. Calvert of Branford died Feb. 11 at Connecticut Hospice. He was the husband of the late Catherine Pacheco Calvert. John was born in Yorkshire, England, July 29, 1929, son of the late Leslie S. and Grace Davis Calvert.

He served in the British Navy. John moved to the U.S., was drafted in the U.S. Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War. John was a police officer with the Branford Police Department for more than 30 years, retiring in 1986 as a sergeant. He was a member of Tabor Lutheran Church in Branford, American Legion Post 83 in Branford, and Widow’s Sons Lodge #66 AF & AM in Branford.

John is survived by his daughter Arnona (John) Cappiello of Branford; his grandchildren Kim (Steve) Jahn, Kristen Cappiello, Katie Coates, and Jaaniece Coates; and his great-granddaughter Liliana Cappiello. He was predeceased by his daughter Claudia Coates.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service Feb. 17 at 10:00 a.m. in Tabor Lutheran Church, Branford. Burial will follow in Tabor Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The W.S.
