Old Saybrook

Patricia A. Monte, 83, formerly of Old Saybrook, died on Feb. 10 at Orchard Grove Specialty Care in Uncasville. She was widowed by Charles R. Monte in August of 2012. They were married in 1954. Mrs. Monte was born April 10, 1934, daughter of Emma and Henry Dee.

Patricia is survived by her daughter Lisa DiStasio and her husband Peter DiStasio of Clinton, and grandchildren Kirsten DiStasio and Nicole DiStasio. Patricia is also survived by her son David Monte and his wife Piper Monte of West Jordan, Utah, and grandchildren Anthony Joos and Season Joos and 1 great-grandchild, Aaron Joos, Alexander Joos, and Lacee Joos, and 3 great-grandchildren. Patricia was the second youngest of 12 children. She was predeceased by many of her siblings and their spouses. She was also predeceased by granddaughter Amanda Dee Trogden. She is survived by many nephews and nieces.

Patricia worked in many places and touched many people’s lives over the years. She worked at Liberty Bank and Old Saybrook Elementary when David was young. She worked for Structural Graphics for years (so she could be home with Lisa) and she had her own day care for many years. Finally she worked at Sage-Allen/Cherry and Web (such beautiful wrapping) and then took care of Kirsten and Nicole when they were very young.

Patricia was a devoted member of Grace Church in Old Saybrook for more than 50 years. She was part of the Altar Guild for more than 20 years and was responsible for the prayer chain for many years. Both Patricia and Charles were involved with many church duties, committees, and functions, and held weekly bible study.

Patricia had love for many things, including books, birds, plants, and sport (UConn and Red Sox) and traveling. She and her husband had been to most of the country on one trip or another.

There will be a wake at Swan Funeral Home in Old Saybrook on Feb. 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, Old Saybrook, with a reception following and burial in Memorial Garden beside the church if weather permits.
