Hamden and North Haven

Philip V. Spina, 91, of North Haven, formerly of Hamden, passed away on Jan. 9 at his home. He was the beloved husband of 69 years to Victoria Lenzo Spina. Philip was born in Brooklyn, New York, on March 20, 1926, the son of the late John and Angelina Tramontano Spina.

He served his country faithfully in the US Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific and received the Purple Heart. Philip had worked as an executive in manufacturing, retiring at age 65. He enjoyed fishing, frequent trips to the casino, but most of all spending time with his family whom he loved unconditionally.

He was the father of Angela (Richard) Starno and John (Linda) Spina. He was the grandfather of Philip (Nicole) Starno, Justin (Karissa) Spina, Christopher Spina, and the late Michael John Starno; the great-grandfather of Michael John Starno and Peyton, and Luciana Spina and Giancarlo Spina; and the brother of Vincent (Marie) Spina and the late Frank Spina.

His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Jan. 13 at 9:30 a.m. Family and friends may call from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Frances Cabrini Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
