Southbury

David Miner Wakelee, 88 years old, passed away peacefully on Jan. 7. Born Sept. 13, 1929, in East Orange, New Jersey, David was the son of the late Reginald and Dorothy (Miner) Wakelee. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Constance (Werly) Wakelee.

David was deeply loved by his five children, Jeffrey Wakelee (Linda DeMarco), Holly Astrausky (Jim), Anne Wakelee Bishop, Barbara Navarro (Ed), and Karen Wakelee; and six grandchildren.

David graduated from the University of Virginia (BA, ROTC, Phi Gamma Delta). He proudly served as a naval officer aboard the USS Rankin, AKA 103. After his commission in the Navy, he attended Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.

David’s rewarding executive marketing career took him and his growing family from New Hampshire to Connecticut, Illinois, Idaho, and New Jersey. In his retirement in Southbury, he was a volunteer for the Heritage Village Ambulance Association as a driver and trainer.

An avid sailor, David was happiest sailing along the Atlantic coast. He was admired for his intellectual curiosity and his willingness to probe for understanding, sharing what he learned with the people around him. He also enjoyed exploring his family genealogy, most recently completing an extensive photo history, a treasured gift to his children.

David was a true gentleman, kind and fair-minded to all he met, devoted and infinitely loving to his family.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Heritage Village Ambulance Association.
