Greggory K. Whiteman

Gregg Whiteman, 78, of Guilford died peacefully on Jan. 3 following a prolonged illness, surrounded by family and friends during his last days at Connecticut Hospice.

He is survived by his loving wife Charlene Whiteman; stepdaughter Tara Sullivan; stepson Brandon Sullivan; son Gregg (Margaret) Whiteman, Jr.; granddaughter Sarah Whiteman; step-grandchildren Avery, Jackson, and Jolene; sisters Betty Abel and Pat Whiteman; brother Gordy (Andrea) Whiteman; half-sister Diane (Tom) Schmidt, and many, many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Gregg was very proud to have served his country, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. People will remember him for his deep love for his family, his passion for sports (hoops with his Madison buddies, the Huskies, the Celts, and the Sox), and his countless memories of his life’s journey along the Connecticut shoreline. Family will remember the songs they sang to him in his last days and how he amazingly joined in. He was a good and decent man who always cared deeply for those around him.

Friends are invited to calling hours to celebrate Gregg’s life on Jan. 14 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
