North Haven

Jeffery Andrews Brooks, 70, a lifelong resident of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Nov. 16 in the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was born on Oct. 28, 1947, in New Haven, the son of Brian and Eunice Brooks.

Jeff graduated from Cheshire Academy and Graham College. He started his career in computers at New Haven Savings Bank, worked for the Town of North Haven, and after his marriage in 1971, started work at Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield as a computer specialist in disaster recovery and worked there until his retirement in 2003. Jeff joined West Ridge Volunteer Fire Department Co. #3 at age 15 and retired after more than 50 years of service. He served and was a member of the Fire Police, was involved with parades, organized the 100th Anniversary of the North Haven Fire Department and the State Parade. He was a North Haven Fair-Announcer, and served on the Connecticut Fireman’s Convention Committee, with Operation Santa, and with the Antique Fire Trucks Club. He was a former member of the Auxiliary Coast Guard, Branford, High Lane Country Club-Bowling-Swim Team Referee-and plays. He was a member of the 5th Connecticut Regiment of the American Revolution, Richfield, living history re-enactments. He was a former member of the North Haven Congregational Church and Spring Glen Congregational Church. Jeff did a lot of volunteer work at Arrowdale Farm, Muzio Farm Market, and Spring Glen Hardware, and did reading for the blind. He loved long walks, J-Roos Karaoke, UConn women’s basketball, the Boston Red Sox, and his cats. Most of all he loved the Town of North Haven. He will be missed by many.

He leaves behind his loving wife Margaret Kaszeta Brooks, to whom he was married for 46 years. He was the father of two sons, Andrew Douglas Brooks who predeceased him this past September, and Patrick Stearns Brooks of Berkeley, California. He was the brother of Susan B. Weiner (Robert) of Park City, Utah; and the cousin of Randall York (Sharon) of Sag Harbor, New York, Sally Barron (Robert) of Enid, Oklahoma, and Graham Andrews (Jean). He was the cousin and close friend of Curtis Andrews, Sr., (Jane) of North Haven. He was the brother-in-law of William Kaszeta (Sandra) of Mesa , Arizona, Linda Kaszeta of Vermont, and Francis Durand of New Mexico. He is also survived by many more nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services were conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Nov. 21, with the Pastor James Detweiler officiating. Family and friends called until the time of the service. Interment followed in the North Haven Center Cemetery.
