East Haven

Eleanore (Hugo) Donahue, 96, of East Haven passed away peacefully on Nov. 13. She was born Feb. 25, 1921, in New Haven to Joseph and Margaret (Ludwig) Hugo.

Eleanore is survived by her brother George Hugo and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Henry Donahue, her parents, and sister Margaret Weidner.

Eleanore grew up in East Haven and graduated from Commercial High school. She was Roman Catholic and attended St. Vincent de Paul Church in East Haven. After high school she worked as a stenographer and cleaned houses as a side job. She had a love for teddy bears and tag sales. She also enjoyed collecting recipes and had an extensive cookbook collection. Eleanore made her own clothing and it was always glamorous. During the holidays she was very festive; she decorated and dressed for every occasion and season.

She was a loving caretaker for both her father and her mother until their passing. In her more recent years, she resided with her brother George and they did everything and took care of each other. Eleanore will be greatly missed.

Family and friends were invited to attend a graveside service on Nov. 18 in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Derby Avenue, West Haven.
