Madison and Delray Beach, Florida

Daniel Patrick Wayland, born March 13, 1964, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 30. Dan was well loved in Madison where he grew up. He graduated from Daniel Hand High School (DHHS) in 1982 and belonged to DHHS bands, directed by the admired Pat Shonk. Dan settled in Florida, where he met his wife Marie. They lived in Delray Beach and were happily married for 26 years, along with their beloved cats Tyra and Taz.

Daniel worked as a data architect for NCCI, National Compensation Commission on Insurance, for 29 years. His coworkers will miss him tremendously. He leaves his in-laws Joseph, Nicole, Andrew, Christina, and Victor, as well as many friends. He was a competitive golfer and bowler. Dan and Marie had a full life, traveled often, and he especially loved Maui. Another favorite place was New Orleans, where they made a second home.

In addition to his wife Marie, Dan leaves his mother Judy Wayland, who resides at the family home in Madison, where Daniel, his sister, and brothers grew up on the Neck River. With his siblings and neighborhood friends, he spent most days of his youth outdoors, exploring the marsh, the river, and the Sound. Daniel leaves his sister Nancy in Colchester; and two brothers and their spouses, James and Sandra of East Boston, Massachusetts, and Thomas and Jennifer of Woodbridge. His niece, Amy Sjovall of East Hartford, adored Dan. He also leaves nephews Jeffrey Sjovall and his spouse Erica of Colchester, Steven and Christopher of Standish, Maine, and Justin and Ryan of Woodbridge; a great nephew, Steven II, in Standish, Maine; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. His father James Patrick Wayland predeceased Mr. Wayland.

Private arrangements have been made. Please play Cornet Carillon in Dan’s memory. Donations can be made to the DHHS Band, in care of John Gage, 286 Green Hill Rd., Madison, CT 06443. A gathering in his memory will be held on May 9, 2018, in connection with the DHHS Spring concert.
